The Brief History of Kutch:

Kutch is located in the western part of Gujarat, India. It was part of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, with a notable Harappan site at Dholavira, also known as ‘Khadir Bet’. Over time, Kutch was ruled by various dynasties, including the Chavdas, Vaghelas, and Solankis, before the Jadejas established their dominance in the mid-16th century. Tourist Attractions in Kutch or What is Kutch famous for?

Kutch is now becoming famous for tourism and has seen significant growth in the tourism industry. Several places have contributed to this rise in popularity. Below are some of the famous places in Kutch:

  • White Desert :

The Great Rann of Kutch, the world’s largest salt marsh, is famous as the ‘White Desert.’ The salt marsh transforms into a white desert during the dry seasons.

  • Bhuj city (Aina Mahel, Pragh Mahel, Smrutivan Memorial, Hamirsar Lake etc.)

Bhuj is the regional headquarters and our main connection to the outside world, making it the most accessible city for locals. It’s known for its rich history, beautiful handicrafts, and architectural monuments like the Aina Mahal, Prag Mahal, and Chattardi.

  • Black hills (The highest peak 🗻 of Kutch)

Kalo Dungar, famously known as the ‘Black Hills of Kutch,’ is located in the same region as the White Desert. At the summit, you will find the Dattatreya Temple. These hills are known for their height, offering a beautiful panoramic view of Kutch.

  • Road to Heaven (A Road nestled between a lake)

Since this route links both communities, you may refer to it as the “Road to Khavda” or the “Road to Dholavira.” The road is roughly thirty kilometers long and nearly straight. The largest salt marsh in the world covers both sides of this road with a white layer of salt, with certain sections of it covered in water. The route appears stunning as it is tucked in between the ocean and salt layer.

  • Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary

These are the main tourist attractions in Kutch district  according to my experience(I’m from Kutch 👋).
