“The great rann of kutch” or “The white desert”
The Rann of Kutch, known as the Great Rann of Kutch and “The White Desert,” resembles a huge salt flat in India with a salt layer covering it. It’s located in the northern part of Kutch. Every year, we have a cool celebration called Ranutsav that starts in November and ends in February. This festival holds significance in Gujarat as it provides us with an opportunity to showcase our fantastic traditional lifestyle and heritage.
This place is located at distance of 79 km from bhuj city! Bhuj is headquarter of kutch district, As i’ve experienced it’s the best city to visit in entire kutch, The great rann of kutch is also known as “Dhorado The Tent City”.

The ground of this area is completely covered with a layer of salt, and it extends over an area of 7500 square kilometers. It’s the biggest salt marsh in India and the whole world. Because it’s covered in a white layer, it looks like a white desert. That’s why people all over the world know this place as the “White Desert.” The government organizes a festival called Ranutsav in this white area, and the festival goes on for three months continuously.

In Kutch, the White Rann is a famous and stunning place to visit. However, there are other nearby places worth checking out, and Kalo Dungar is one of them. Kalo Dungar is the highest peak in Kutch, and you can enjoy beautiful landscapes from there. It’s about 50 km away from the White Rann, so make sure not to miss it. Trust me, visiting this place will be worth it.

The government organizes a festival called Ranutsav in this white area, and the festival goes on for three months continuously. People from all over the world come to Kutch to visit the Great Rann of Kutch. Ranutsav is one of the longest and biggest festivals in our region, and it brings joy to our hearts. This festival lasts for three months, and we truly enjoy it like no other. It makes us feel refreshed and energetic because during this time, we meet many new people who come to visit the “White Desert.” This festival holds great importance for the people in the region.

Reflecting on our history, our district, specifically in the region known as “Banni” in Kutch, had a distinct clothing culture that distinguished us from other countries. Despite the influence of Western culture on various aspects, we have preserved our traditions. In Kutch, you’ll observe that fewer people opt for short clothes as the locals continue to embrace and take pleasure in their traditional attire.

how to reach Rann of kutch?
By bus: If you’ve arrived at Bhuj railway station, step outside and find a rickshaw to take you to Bhuj bus port. Once there, head to the inquiry office and ask about a bus to the “White Desert.” It’s an easy, safe, and affordable way to reach the White Desert.
By taxi: Opting for a taxi to get to the White Rann is the best choice. It might be a bit more expensive, as I’ve found, but it’s very comfortable compared to taking a bus or other modes of transportation.
